The Islander League cross country season began last Tuesday with our first cluster meet. The San Diego City Conference comprises Western, Eastern, and City leagues. Coronado competes in the City League with St. Augustine, Crawford, San Diego, La Jolla, High Tech High (SD), and Clairemont. Each league has its cluster on a different day. This year, the Eastern League runs on Tuesday, the City League on Wednesday, and the Western League on Thursday. All meets are on the City Conference 3.11 mile course at Morley Field. Of the 144 finishers in the boys’ races, Nathan Ayan placed 18th with 18:02, followed by Vincent Russo (20th in 18:08) and Jack Letcher (23rd in 18:21). Xavier Marsh and Nicholas Wosje finished out our scoring team in 43rd and 46th places. Our pushers were Andrew Buck and Anton Youngblood. All teams ran together in a cluster, and individual team matchups were determined after the race. In this case, Coronado lost to both San Diego and Crawford. We’ll go against the other schools in the next scoring cluster meet. Austin Literal had the best time in the boys’ JV meet at 21:26, followed by Ziggy Raunig, Woody Smith, Oliver Surdykowski, Chace Smith, and Nathan Wood.
For the girls, our top finisher was Morgan Maske in fifth place out of 74, with a time of 20:26, followed by Gywnne Letcher in eighth with 21:04. Ava Schlomer, Maesan Everitt, and Jaya Jost finished out the scoring in 26th, 28th, and 30th place. Our pushers were Nadia Roos and Olivia De Santi. There was no separate JV race; all the girls ran together. Kate Lyons was our eighth finisher, followed by Olivia Barker, Teaghan Carpinito, and Ella Holman. Teamwise, the girls won over both San Diego and Crawford. They’ll go against the other teams in the next scoring cluster, like the boys.
