Coronado High School boys’ swim didn’t have many first-place finishes in their last meet against Point Loma on Wednesday afternoon, but it didn’t matter. The scoring system for dual meets suits our team to a tee. In the individual events, the first-place finisher earns six points, the second-place finisher earns four points, the third-place finisher earns three points, the fourth-place finisher earns two points, and the fifth-place finisher earns one point.
The team had a few first-place finishes by Andre Poole in the 50 free, Gage Everitt in the 100 free, and Sean Wilbur in the 100 backstroke, but the team also had nine second and third-place finishes, which greatly contributed to the overall win, 90-78. The girls’ team came up a bit short of the Pointers this year. First-place finishes by Chloe Quarles in the 50 free and the 100 fly and Ally Fabrey in the 100 backstroke helped make the score a bit closer, but the team still lost 73-97, even with five second-place and six third-place finishes.
Sixth-year Coach Paul Folts is thrilled with the teams’ progress to this point in the season and is excited to see how the kids develop by the City Championships on April 29-May 2.
The swim team has another home meet on Friday afternoon at BBMAC against Patrick Henry at 3:30 p.m.
• JV Swim Spotlight
Coronado High School is fortunate to have a robust JV swim team, all working hard every day to improve their times. The JV team has an opportunity at each Varsity meet to compete against other JV teams in order to show off their skills and better their times with a goal of swimming at the City Championship meet at the end of the season.
