The Coronado Islanders boys’ lacrosse team continued its winning ways this past week, extending its winning streak to five with an impressive 15-5 win against Loyola Academy.
Against the Ramblers, Coronado would lean on two of their impact scorers to get things started. Jared Capin and Landon Sutherland each notched goals in the game’s opening minutes, helping Coronado jump ahead 2-1.
The goals by Capin and Sutherland would be their first of the eventual four they’d each score in Wednesday night’s victory.
After quickly going out 2-1, Coronado would continue to grow their lead in the early stages of the second quarter thanks to a point-blank range finish from Jack Perry, making it a 6-2 game. A possession later, Perry would strike yet again.
The sophomore got airborne and intercepted an attempted pass in the attacking third, easily lacing one into the back of the net with Loyola well out of position, extending Coronado’s lead to 7-2.
The very next possession Coronado would add on yet again. After a face-off win by Robby Spane, the Islanders’ fleet-footed draw specialist dished to Jaxton Preston, who’d find a cutting Capin for his second goal of the evening to make it an 8-2 Islanders lead.
Loyola Academy would respond to the flurry of Islander scores with two goals of their own to make it a bit more interesting, but ultimately, Coronado would pull away in the later stages.
In the third, Sutherland recorded his third goal of the game, a bullet into the top right corner of the net from 13 yards out, making it a 9-4 game.
Shortly after Sutherland’s goal, Robby Spane would tally the first of his eventual two goals on the night, striking from nearly an identical spot as Sutherland but going into the top left corner, making it a 10-5 game.
Coronado contained to apply pressure in the third quarter. Following Spane’s finish, Jared Capin connected on his third goal of the evening with a mid-range side-arm wrist shot off a great assist and find by Braydon Avallone, making it an 11-5 game and, for all intents and purposes, putting the game away for Coronado.
While Coronado managed to nab the win against Loyola Academy, the Islanders would lose their second matchup of the week on Friday against De Le Salle by the final of 10-5, snapping their five-game winning streak.
With Coronado High School on spring break, the Islanders boys’ lacrosse team will take the week to rest, recuperate, and prepare for the second half of their 2025 season.
The Islanders will return to action on Tuesday, April 8th, when they will take on La Costa Canyon High School.
